I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to turn 30. I know, age is but a number, but so many of us use age as a reference point to compare ourselves to our peers. We think that by a certain age we would have hit certain milestones, only to have the realities of life show us that that life doesn’t abide by the ages we turn, it really is more about the journey. I’ve had days where I would think about all the things I hadn’t done by this age.
I’m 30 soon. A lot of the things I thought I’d have done by 30 haven’t happened but a lot of the things that have happened were things I hadn’t anticipated. And in a strange ish way, it I would have preferrred the way that life just naturally happened. They say life doesn’t give you what you want but more so what you need. And I certainly got a lot of that. Going into 30, I don’t have anything mapped to any age at all. I don’t know. Come what may. I’ll let life take me where I need to go. Trust.
There are days when I wish I could go back to see little me. I want to talk to 9 year old me and sit with her for a day and just watch her. I want to show her love, I want to tell her that she can trust me. I would tell her to trust herself and embrace the person she is. I would tell her to be adventurous with life and just go with her whole heart. I would tell her to take care of teenage me, so that teenage me wouldn’t feel like a loner at times. I would tell her to not be afraid of taking the path less taken. Just dream big. Don’t be afraid. I want to go back to all my selves and sit with them for a day.
